Since I had all three lenses on hand at the same time, I thought I’d do a quick comparison of out-of-focus highlights. Shown above are three Olympus lenses, namely, the 50mm f1.8, 50mm f1.4. and 55mm f1.2.
I set up a simple tabletop shot with a Taylor GS Mini guitar and a string of lights against a black background. With the Sony APS-C mirrorless on a tripod, I only exchanged the lenses. While not absolutely consistent in focal length, the intent was to show the effect of the different maximum apertures. The focal point was the on the guitar’s bridge pins for each shot.
Each shot was wide open at their respective maximum apertures, on Aperture Priority mode to keep exposure relatively constant. This was not a “shootout” to see which is sharper, nor do I intend to make a judgement as to which is better. All three are excellent lenses, as expected from Olympus.
